Rapid Creek

Rapid Creek

Rapid Creek is the perfect location for a day's outing, whether you prefer fly fishing, bicycling, hiking, a leisurely walk, or simply dangling your toes in the refreshing, icy water. Home of some of the area's most enjoyable fly-fishing, Rapid Creek also boasts the occasional gold flake, a wild tangle of native flowers, and the Silver City Trailhead of the Deer Creek Trail.

Bridge over Creek

Deerfield trail offers six trailheads located between Deerfield Lake and the Deer Creek trailhead, which is located at the beginning of Silver City road. You'll pass it on your way to Jenny Gulch Bed and Breakfast. The trail winds through the woods 2.5 miles to the Silver City Trailhead on Rapid Creek and, from there, on to Deerfield Lake for a total of 18 miles of bicycle and hiker friendly trail. Part of the path follows beautiful Castle Creek.

Shining Creek

You can get to Rapid Creek from Jenny Gulch Bed and Breakfast by several routes, all within a short drive.

A favorite haunt of fly fishermen, Rapid Creek offers both brown and rainbow trout. Castle Creek, which you will meet around a mile from the Silver City trailhead, is a little smaller, a little more secluded, and also offers excellent waters for the fisherman.

One of the most fascinating things about this area is its history. Cindy, your hostess, remembers panning for gold in this part of the creek on her grandfather's gold claim when she was a child. She and her family used to camp on the claim long before she knew she would one day live so close to this very spot. They never found much gold, but they did have a lot of fun.

This whole area must have been covered with hopeful miners during the gold rush. As you wander the trails, you'll see countless curious holes scattered over the landscape, the relics of the hard, heartbreaking labor of thousands of hopefull, but unsuccessful miners.
